A Green Card is proof of permanent residence in the United States. It is also commonly referred to as a Permanent Residency Card.

DV Lottery stands for Diversity Immigration Visa Program and is a US government scheme aimed at allowing people from countries with low immigration rates to become permanent US citizens. The winners are chosen at random by a computer algorithm.

There are a limited number of Green Cards available. Of the approximately 100,000 DV Lottery winners each year, 55,000 people receive a Green Card.

If you wish to apply for a Green Card in the US, you will need to demonstrate your education and/or work experience. In order to be considered, you must have either a high school diploma (or an equivalent) or two years of relevant work experience. Upon selection for a Green Card, you must fulfill all the requirements. Your application will then be reviewed by the U.S. embassy. Between the time you enter the lottery and when you receive the final answer, the process can take around two years.

After your Green Card application has been approved, you will have 12 months to accept the Green Card and activate it by traveling to the United States.
